FAQ
How is the sample collected?
The Testing Shop provides a simple, non-invasive, at-home saliva collection kit, meaning you do not need to visit a laboratory.
Do I need a doctor's order or referral to purchase a genetic test?
No, you do not need a physician’s order or referral to get tested through The Testing Shop.
How long does it take to get my results?
For most genetic panels, such as the Women’s Health Panel, Foundational Panel, Customized Diet Panel, and Longevity Panels, results are typically available in about 2 weeks from the time the lab receives your sample. For the more complex Epigenetics Panel, results take approximately 4 weeks.
What information will I receive with my results?
You will receive a comprehensive genetic report that scores specific traits with a validated risk categorization (such as High, Medium, or Low genetic risk). Beyond just data, the report provides evidence-based, actionable recommendations for nutrition, lifestyle, and supplementation tailored exactly to your unique genetic profile. For those wanting deeper science, optional detailed interpretations at the SNP (single-nucleotide polymorphism) level are also available.
What exactly is the difference between standard genetic testing and epigenetic testing?
Standard genetic testing (like the Foundational Panel) looks at your inherited DNA sequence to establish a baseline of your genetic risks and predispositions. Epigenetic testing, however, analyzes the molecular “switches” (methylation patterns) that turn your genes on or off. This means epigenetics assesses the current biological state of your gene expression and biological aging, rather than just what you inherited.
Do these genetic panels diagnose medical conditions or diseases?
No, these genetic panels are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure diseases independently. Instead, they use Polygenic Risk Scores and epigenetic markers to reveal your genetic predispositions, susceptibilities, and current biological aging. They are designed to be a proactive tool to help you and your provider build a personalized preventive care plan. (Note: One exception is the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Panel, which does use an FDA-cleared
blood-based biomarker test to evaluate current neurodegenerative activity, though it is still used to guide care alongside a clinician).
What if I don't understand my genetic report?
You won’t be left to figure it out alone! Every test comes with customized educational videos to help explain your unique genetic and epigenetic profile. You will also receive a clear, actionable plan with grocery lists and lifestyle recommendations. From there, you can review your results with your healthcare provider or through a provided telemedicine service to ensure you know exactly what your next steps should be.
